Political Front Getting Out Of Hand

Recommended Posts

:D

Hello, I think that the political front is getting really out of hand these days. I don't have any issues with debate and free speech and all, but lately the front has been all but hijacked by people who want to do nothing but abuse muslims and Islam itself. I think perhaps a ban for extreme trolling, or a perma-ban may be in order after a certain amount of violations have been made. I've discussed this in pm with a few members and we are concerned that if new people come to this forum (esp muslims) they may get quite shocked by the vitriol being heaped on us here. For my part I've just started ignoring most of the posters on the PF because arguing with them is so pointless. Do you all think anything can be done?

Yes I've noticed this too.

Also known as people who have nothing better to do.

:D bro. Your suggestions have been noted.

We did come up with rule 40:

non-Muslims showing no interest in learning about Islam, or consistently attacking Muslims/Islam: warn within first 30 posts, disable at 50 posts

Most of these low lifes have reached past 50 posts, although we do make exceptions. And we already have a member list in place.

Peace Ozy,

I've kinda noticed it too. The Political Front is a bit of an anomaly in that the moral high ground seems to change hands every few months depending on the character of those respresenting the Muslim and non-Muslim sides. (that's how things tend to shape up) When I joined the forum yonks ago it was certain Muslim members who tended to have a detrimental impact on the average IQ of the forum, however as those members have moved on (or been moved on) the tables appear to have turned again and the non-Muslim side is now the weakest link in most of the debates.

I'm all for unrestricted and open discussions, but it's all for nothing if forum trolls have a free reign.

The PF could benefit from harder rules against those who repeatedly derail threads or post nonsensical comments.

Then there're the repeat offenders, who're probably banned, but return a few weeks later with a new account.

Some decent people have abandoned the PF already. If it continues in that direction, the only posters left will be the trolls.

:D to all those who give their time to keep the forum running.

Usually the banned members stupidly come back with usernames or an agenda simlar to the one they had before. Or are spotted via a similar style of writing, making it all the more easier to permanetly disable their account again. One way of completely stopping them, is to prohibit any users from that IP address from registering again, and that can only be done by Br dot.

Having said that, due to the forum recently experiencing an influx of trolls, we are undoubtedly more careful. Any member who registers and makes their first posts within the PF (or has all their post in that forum) goes through a simple IP check and regardless of duplicate membership, they are regularly monitored thereafter as a means of precuation.

:D for your sugestions bro . I'll be discussing this with br dot :D.

salaam;

what about the Answering anti-Islamic Allegations ? Non-Muslims are calling holy Prophet Muhammed (p) as child molester (Author Of Quran ). Of Course , they can raise questions but they must not allow to use such dirty words.

Pl. do something about it.

I don't think it is that bad, in the sense that you have hugely differing opinions slugging it out with each other. I actually think that it is a darn good thing, there are not many other forums where anyone can do this. Agreed there are a few idiots ON BOTH SIDES that tend to let themselves and their arguments down, but for the vast majority these are seen as idiots and treated as idiots.

Healthy criticism of each other is a good thing, whether you change opinions or not is irrelevant, the fact that this is a medium though which to do it is great. Otherwise, with the chance taken away, no-one learns anything other than their closed view of the world - this applies to both sides.

Peace Leics23,

I would tend to agree with you that the purpose of a political forum is to encourage debate, and opinions from all spectrums of the political arena. But I think for those of us who have been on the boards for a while, there seems to have been a vast increase in the number of trolls on the Forums. The Political Forum has always been a hotbead of opinons, with people fervently arguing their point, sometimes until you are spun around so many circles you come out of there feeling somewhat dizzy and lightheaded ( :D ).

On the whole, those who choose to post on that forum expect to be challenged in some way or another, it just comes with the territory, and it is an aspect certain memebers thrive off. However, this does not excuse the large number of trolls who come on here just to have a dig about Islam, Muslims or the Prophet (pbuh) be that on the political forum or anywhere else. They often present very baseless posts, with no substance and no valid arguments, just using every opportunity to throw in cheap shots to offend or rile Muslims. They can be spotted a mile off, so I think reporting any such posts to a moderator is an adequate way of controlling the problem.
