  4. To All My Indonesian Muslims

As-salamu alaykum (السلام عليكم) I want to strat this topic as a poll if so be it. To all of my brothers and sisters of Islam in Indonesia. I want to start to say that I am a REvert to Islam for more than 20 years, and I have moved to Indonesia to live as I was led to believe that it is a very Islamic country (we will talk that later) but I see that there is a piece of clothing here only worn by the Musliminah of Indonesia woman called a "mukena" and at first was confused, but later came to realize that in my opinion it is a cultural thing and not an Islamic thing. Now my question that I pose here is what do you think of this garment, as far as I am concerned I have told my wife she does not have to wear this if she is wearing the appropriate attire that is required of a Musliminah. If a woman is true to her hijjab then she is ok to pray in front of Allah. I find that the "mukena" allows a woman to feel she does not have to wear the hijjab as she will go to the masjid to pray then dawn the "mukena" and be safe to pray. Then go outside in her western attire and be ok with that. It is a sad state that the people here feel this way. Indonesia might have the QUANTITY Muslim population, but they have the QUALITY of Muslims. Again I am sorry, but if I am wrong please tell me I am wrong. Abdulah Mohamed
  5. Juma Prayer

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh (السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته), I want to start by talking about myself. I am a revert of almost 10 years now, I have just moved back to the states from living in the UAE. I had fallen in love with living there for I was able to follow my seen to the fullest. Now to the reason that I am posting her, while living in the UAE I never missed a prayer at the Masjid, and never missed a Juma. Now that I have moved back to the states (Minnesota, Mpls) I have a dilemma. I spent the first three months of my return trying to find a job, it is very hard here to find work, Alhamdulillah (الحمد لله) I found work. Here is the problem that I have. I had gone to ,my new job and explained to them that on Fridays are the holy days that I like to take off 2 hrs to attend Friday prayer, I was abruptly told that I was unable to attend. Now I have to have this job I have a family to support I have young children, and for the economic reason can not leave this job. Now I told this to my friends and they are telling me that it is Haram to miss Juma prayer, but I do not have a choice at this time in my life, now I need to know what are the repercussions for not going to Juma prayer. I am working to move to another Islamic country (Indonesia,) in January. But till then I have this dilemma I am asking for advice please.
  6. Coffee House

As-Salāmu `Alaykum, I have a question here for the brothers, but sisters feel free to chime in as well. I have been going to this coffee shop in my neighborhood for some time now, and it is a great place to just sit back relax and get some organic soup, food what not. Plus the coffee is great too. But here is my question, they just (in the last week here) started to serve beer here, of course I do not partake in this beverage, but is it ok for me to still come here and enjoy myself. I really do like this place it is a relaxing place and a place that I can come to to relax after a hard day at work for a good cup of joe. Thanks Abdulah
  7. Salams

As-Salāmu `Alaykum brothers and sisters, my name is Abdulah and I have been a re-vert for about 3 yrs now and I have to tell you my life course has never been more straight since I became a Muslim, I feel at ease, and I feel whole. I know that there is a long journey for me ahead, but now I know that I will not e on that journey alone for I know that Allah is with me. I hope to find some good friends here and hope to learn from many of you as well, I have many questions and maybe I can answer some for you as well In šāʾ Allāh. Abdulah
